Dean Ingram played in more than 70 games for McMurry during a three-year career from 1963-66. Ingram was called by Coach Hershel Kimbrell, his “quarterback” and “playmaker,” handling the point guard position in an era before assists were even kept. The fact that Ingram was responsible for distributing the ball to Preston Vice and Russell Noll – both of whom earned all-America honors and still rank among the school’s best scorers – should tell you all you need to know about his ball-handling skills. But Ingram was also able to score, himself, averaging in double-digits as both a junior and senior. In a quirky feat, Ingram tallied 53 points in one night versus Arlington: 37 in the JV game and another 16 in the varsity contest that followed! His poise also helped the Indians knock of No. 10-ranked Pan American in the 1964-65 season, 87-71.Ingram graduated in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and speech. He was also involved in Alpha Sigma Chi during his time in the Maroon & White. After graduation, Ingram was the head boys’ basketball coach at Throckmorton (1969-71) and Colorado City (1971-74). His Throckmorton teams were a combined 41-11 during his two seasons and won the bi-district championship both years. He was 53-27 in his three campaigns at Colorado City. After 1974, Ingram began working in the private sector.
