2006 Cross Country (Women's)

The 2006 McMurry women’s cross country team is the first to have won an American Southwest Conference championship in the sport. The squad, coached by David Chandler, also placed third in the Texas NCAA III regional championship race and 13th at the NCAA South/Southwest Regionals.

The unit achieved numerous individual accolades, as well. Freshman Carla Lewis was not only the ASC individual winner, also won the league’s “Freshman of the Year” and “Runner of the Year” honors. Lewis ran the fastest 5K time in school history at a meet at Clackamas Community College in Oregon and placed 21st at the NCAA III South/Southeast Regional meet.

Lewis was also a cross country coaches association national all-academic honoree, as well.

At the 2006 ASC championship race, teammates Kaelan Meals (4th) and Juliann Ashabranner (5th) joined Lewis in earning all-ASC honors. Chandler was cited as the ASC “Coach of the Year.”
