2007 Basketball (Women's)

The 2006-07 women's basketball team was inducted into the Class of 2019 as a dual entry, combining with the 2005-06 squad as dual team inductions.

Led by 2005-06 ASC Coach of the Year Sam Nichols and All-American players Tarra Richardson and Symbri Tuttle, McMurry combined for a 51-8 overall record and a 39-4 conference record. The team won an American Southwest Conference title in 2006 and went on to the NCAA Tournament both seasons.

In addition to All-American status, Tuttle was named the ASC West Division Player of the Year in 2006-07. Richardson and Tuttle were also first team all-conference both seasons.

Joining the duo for conference honors those seasons were Allison Nelson and Maigen Saywer. Nelson earned honorable mentions two years in a row, while the three-point shooting Sawyer was an honorable mention on both teams and a second team all-ASC member in 2007-08.

In 2006-07, Amber Horton earned a spot on the ASC all-defensive team. Horton was also an all-freshman honoree in 2005-06 and went on to earn all-ASC honors her final two seasons.

In the classroom during that timeframe, McMurry had eight academic all-ASC selections. The list includes Richardson, Horton, Sawyer, Tuttle, Jennifer Paerzold and Jabri Butler. Richardson and Tuttle won the honor both seasons. Richardson also added a CoSIDA Academic All-American award in 2006-07.

Many of McMurry's single season records came from these two teams. Richardson's .602 field goal percentage in 2005-06, Sawyer's 66 three-pointers made in 2005-06 and 194 attempted in 2006-07, Nelson's .937 free throw percentage from 2006-07 and Richardson's 80 blocks in 2005-06 still stand as records today.

Richardson, Tuttle and Sawyer are also individual career leaders from those teams. Tuttle owns the career records for assists and free throw percentage, while Sawyer is McMurry's all-time best three-point shooter. Richardson has nine of McMurry career records, the most of any one player.

Coach Sam Nichols led both squads to prominence, but this is not his first time leading a team into the Hall of Honor. Nichols also coached the 1999-00 team that finished 24-5, appeared in the Sweet Sixteen and was inducted into McM's Hall of Honor in 2013. Nichols remains the program's all-time winningest coach, spending 12 seasons at the helm.

Joining him on both staffs was Brittany Densman-Roes, who worked as an assistant for Nichols after previously playing at McMurry. Densman-Roes later became head coach of the program in 2014.
